Career Boost connects users with mentors in their industry.
The Problem
Many individuals in the workforce struggle to navigate their careers and find guidance on how to reach their professional goals. As a result, they may feel lost or unsure of how to progress in their careers and make important decisions.
The Goal
Design a user-friendly app that allows users to easily search and connect with mentors who have the knowledge and experience they are looking for.
Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
User Research
Summary
I conducted usability studies with friends and family, statistics and other research methods. Through my research, I identified several key themes and insights. Many of the end users expressed a strong desire for guidance and support in their careers, but had difficulty finding mentors who were a good fit for their needs and goals. They also reported that they would be more likely to use a mentorship app if it was easy to use and provided access to a wide range of mentors in different industries.
Pain Points:
Lack of access to a diverse range of mentors in different industries.
Difficulty finding a mentor who is a good fit for their needs and goals.
Inability to easily communicate and collaborate with mentors, leading to ineffective mentoring relationships.
Wireframe Sketches
Sketching wireframes allows me to quickly and easily generate multiple design ideas and iterate on them to create layouts that are tailored to the needs of my end-users.
This saves me time and effort and enables me to explore a wide range of possibilities before settling on a final design.
Usability Study
Summary
I conducted a moderated in person study with 3 of my family members, and 3 of my close friends.
Findings:
Users need more options to filter through mentors
Users need better clues for what steps to take when booking a mentor
Users should be able to schedule mentorship sessions.
Hi-FI Mobile Prototype
The high-fidelity prototype features a revised design that includes images, color, and new features. This updated design is more visually appealing and engaging, and better reflects the intended user experience.
